food fight smackdown!

Burnt Toast w/ Reverse Crust (that’s right.)

Artist’s Statement: I designed this toast with the film photographer in mind. Having done extensive research and surveys of prominent photographers in the late 20th century, it’s become apparent that many of these greats like to develop their negatives, but not go that extra step to reverse the negative images into contrast-appropriate photographs. This Burnt Toast w/ Reverse Crust addresses and solves that issue. By setting out to creat the object in the relative hues usually found in the negative stage, the photographer may pleasantly stop at the negative stage and admire appropriate toast; i.e. a light shade body and dark shade boarder. You are welcome Mr. and Mrs. Joe Q. Photographer.

first i sleep, then i kill

Now I will rest. Shortly I will be called upon to kill. I've packed my wrath-of-yarn bag to bring to work tomorrow. I'm planning on taking an early break to begin my pattern to wreck havoc and mayhem on my target.

Toast 'em if you've got 'em!

What do you do?

What do you do when you feel you aren’t doing enough? When all your tasks don’t have a due date, let alone a start date? What happens when all you dream to do stays a dream?

+ create a gratitude list of what you do have
+ remember that you’re exactly where you are suppose to be
+ stretch
+ instead of speeding up, slow down. do like those smarties in those car chase scenes of the 70’s who would slam on their breaks while the bad guys flew past them on the road.
+ take 10 deep breaths
+ reach out to those who truly support you
+ put first things first
+ keep an idea journal, even if your ideas aren’t being worked on, they’ll be kept accessible
+ be in the moment
+ design a matrix of tasks - is there really that much or is something else overwhelming?
+ do it all in just 15 minutes at a time
+ purge - who says you have to do it all?
+ draft a quick blog entry and invite feedback!

Score!

Hi Peeps, happy Sunday!
Check out all the cool stuff I got my hands on yesterday! I used my birthday gift certificate from the band and loaded up on reclaimed yarn! What you are looking at is 27 balls of yarn, 3 clipboards, some rickrack, a tracing wheel my dad tried to get from me, corduroy for Eva Jo, 3 bits of fabric, 2 large yarn needles, 4 stamps I'll use for fabric printing, some size 2 knitting needles, a pink stamp pad, some brads, and a broch that reminds me of one in my mom's senior high school picture. (Well, you're not looking at the brads or ink pad, hmm, they must be camera shy.) I even have a BART ride today so I can start knitting baby hats for St. Lukes! (OK, that's way too many exclamation points for this early on a Sunday - I must be super stoked to have all this yarn!)

Craft ON,
Z$

hoppy easter!

Happy Easter everyone! Hope the Easter Bunny was good to you. Getting ready for the holiday means another reason to do a craft project. This is the second year my friend had us over to decorate eggs. We are pros now. They had set up the water-based, lemon juice-based, and vinegar-based colors by the time I got there.

I brought along my stamps, glitter, and some image transfers, circa 1971, from an estate sale. The egg in the back displays an attempt at using one of the transfers, a bunny.
Here's a close up of my masterpiece for this year: the bling egg.

On Easter Sunday, my family had brunch then went over to the Marina to fly kites! There were many folks there with the same idea. Here's a sampling of work from my artistic family after we finished our meal.

And here are three of the four kites we got up today.

What'd you do for Easter?

caress the walls

Greetings Peeps. I am officially all craft-yarded-out. And I mean that in a good way. I'm kicking back with my feet up after finding many finds today and officially beginning my inventory for my newest supply venture: Craft Yardage - reclaimed goods by the yard, stack or pile! Today's finds were many vintage items from the 1950's and 60's. Good times. My take included some flocked wallpaper. Though I plan to make some greeting cards with the stuff, the kind woman taking my money gave me a pointer, "if you ever tire from these colors, you can paint over it." I thought that was just brilliant. Get that texture under a new color option! Wow! I kind of want to put some up on the wall just to paint over it. But I don't know how I could bore of the color it is now, and besides, I'm makin' cards! If you want to try some on your wall or make some cards too, contact me and I'll put up a listing on etsy for you. Maybe I'll paint some cards. Yummy, yummy!
